The Y Central South Island Incorporated is a trusted, community-driven organisation
with over 100 years of service across the wider South Canterbury region.
Our vision is “To be a beacon of opportunity & empowerment for People & Communities”.
Our mission is to ‘”Foster growth, change and engagement through impactful
programmes and initiatives”.
Evolving to meet community needs since 1917 in Timaru and more recently Twizel,
the Y provides a wide range of programmes and services across three core
streams:
Education & Training
Driving & Employment Pathways
Youth & Community Development (including Wellbeing & Youth Work)
We are well embedded in the communities in which we operate and deliver
strengths-based holistic programmes and services to taiohi, takata, whānau and
hapori.
Our South Canterbury operations provide a social services delivery model that
empowers people and provides opportunities for them to positively grow and move
forward in their life, have a positive personal development experience with us and partner with us for a positive and enduring outcome.
Our Timaru site provides Foundational Level Tertiary Education (i.e. Adult Community Education, Intensive Literacy & Numeracy; Youth Guarantee (Levels 1 and 2), Driver Training; Driving Instruction (Class 1 Learner, Restricted and Full Driver Licenses), Employment Pathway Services and a suite of Youth & Community Development programmes and services within schools and the wider community.
The Y’s mahi delivers Strong Futures and Strong Communities across the wider
South Canterbury towns of Waimate, Timaru, Temuka, Geraldine and Twizel.
