The Y Central South Island
The Y Central South Island (ymcasc.org.nz) has deep roots – stretching back to 1917 – and wide community connections.
Our mission is to inspire and connect communities by Investing in the Next Generation.
We do this through a range of mostly free programmes and services in the areas of education, driving licence support, employment pathways and support to employment, youth work, youth development, and youth recreation.
While a key focus is young people, each year we work alongside nearly 6300 families, students, and programme participants of all ages throughout the South Canterbury region – testament to our success in growing our community impact.
In fact, The Y is a Community Organisation category finalist in the 2024 South Canterbury Business & Community Excellence Awards.
Our mahi can be summed up as “Whakamana takata, whakamana taiohi – Through empowering the mana of people, we empower the mana of youth.”
