Family Works Presbyterian Support

Presbyterian Support South Canterbury - Family Works Service provide a wide range of FREE social support services across the generations for tamariki and their families/whānau, schools and individuals, who are facing complex life challenge and encourages and assist people to work through challenging issues and become stronger.   We work with the community to find a new way forward and a positive outcome for all involved.

We are a client centered, innovative, responsive, professional social service organisation that works alongside people, inspiring hope and assisting people in multiple ways. We support and work with everyone in our community regardless of their cultural, social, economic, political, and spiritual values and we work alongside people to help them to achieve their goals and build their resilience.

We are passionate about the work we do and committed to working with tamariki and their whānau alongside other key stake holders and organisations in our community. This allows us to be flexible and responsive, and tailor our service provision to meet the uniqueness of tamariki and their whānau and local community needs. We have been supporting people in this community for over 106 years and we make a positive difference in the lives of people every single day.

Our government contract to allow our service to provide the only FREE counselling services to our community has recently been cut and the funds that we receive as from the CSICBR for 2025 will be used to continue to employ counsellors within our service to continue to provide this crucial FREE counselling service.

Those we help are from all walks of life including youth; parents; couples; grandparents raising grandchildren; individuals dealing with trauma from grief; accidents; family violence; former refugees are also now looking for help related to dispossession, war and grief.  Our counsellors also play a large interactive role with our other teams working with social workers in homes and schools assisting where they can to provide relief to families with complex needs.  They provide support for those that want to improve their wellbeing; their parenting; their ability to lead fulfilling lives that inevitably lead to them taking part in society in healthy ways that benefits them, their children their families and therefore our community and its collective stronger future.
