You will have many duties to perform over the course of the ride, but first and foremost you are one of the team members responsible for the safety and security of the cyclists in the group you are assigned to. Each group will have at least two team leaders cycling who will be wearing orange shirts, and one driver will be appointed head driver of your group. There will be three vehicles per group. You will be required to liaise with the team leaders of your group to ensure the following:
- All cyclists in your group are together before leaving at the start of the day and each rest site
- Your group always has a support vehicle – if one drops back to stay with an injured cyclist the others remain with the group
- You must wear the safety vest issued to you at all times while on duty
- Each and every cyclist has adequate food and water available to them at each rest stop
- Your vehicle is always carrying the short wave radio issued to it, and it is on and working correctly at all times during the ride
- If you are driving at the rear of your group you must sound your horn to warn the group of passing traffic
- If you are driving at the front of your group you must warn the team leaders of oncoming hazards via short wave radio
- You must report any riders dropping off the back of the group or stopping to the team leaders via short wave radio, if the group has not noticed
- The front vehicle is well stocked with extra food and water, and this is replenished before the start of the next day’s ride
- If your vehicle requires fuel, report it to the head driver
- Your vehicle is prominently displaying the hazard/warning signs and lights that have been issued, and these are securely fastened to your vehicle
- You are available to support your team’s first aiders in event of an accident or illness for any team member
- If you are driving at the rear of the group your vehicle is carrying a first aid kit
- Your cellphone is on and fully charged
- You will be required to assist with camp duties as required
- You provide a positive and supportive attitude to your team

You will have equipment issued to your vehicle and you will be responsible for it. If there are any issues with your equipment or vehicle please report it to the vehicle co-ordinator immediately, or at the earliest opportunity. Please be courteous to other road users, and if the vehicle you are driving in, is not your own please treat it with respect and leave it clean & tidy.
DO NOT smoke in it!
Start times for each day to be confirmed, these will vary from group to group. Team leaders will call unscheduled stops and starts when and if their group requires.
The head drivers of each group will be briefed by the vehicle coordinator before the start of the ride, and at the beginning and end of each day. Any issues arising during each ride need to be brought to his attention.
We need your help to make this a fun and, above all, safe event for all involved.
